Sats as "internet points" could be one of the major ways that mass adoption happens.
I'm beginning to notice that sites and apps like SN, Nostr Clients with Zaps, and Fountain are getting a large amount of growth. All it takes is one of these types of services to explode in popularity with normies. Maybe the service gives 1000 sats to each new user for a while to gain traction.
These new users won't see themselves as Bitcoiners. They just think they have an actually useful form of Reddit karma. If they like someone's content, they send a zap. They can create content, get sats, then spend it on gift cards and stuff. If it gets popular enough, it could force other social media services to adapt or die. Similar to the way TikTok has made Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, etc. adopt short form video content.
If the newly popular service is principled enough, they could strong arm the other services into being interoperable and maybe even self custodial. Bitcoin becomes the money of social media. If it becomes the money of social media, I could see businesses joining the bandwagon by allowing sats to be spendable in their stores. That's when the fun begins.
Yeah I agree.
99.9% of internet users have probably never earned anything for their content… even though they’ve been posting on dozens of platforms for a decade or more.
For many, Lightning payments will be the first realization that they can in fact make money on the internet, and that their content does have financial value.
Other social platforms will have to let their users earn for their work, or be left in the dust. YouTube is the only major social platform that has a half-decent earning program today, but even that has a 45% take rate and a 30+ day settlement period.
Lightning is a far better tool for this job.

The first time I got sats for a SN comment I got hooked on SN 👏

We might need to start up a support group for all the junkies that are created from stacker.news.

Sats are an easy way to monetize even simple content, like posts, comments and memes, content that most users have enough attention span to create and consume. Much easier than monetizing YouTube videos etc. where the barrier to entry is high, not to mention the risk of being deplatformed.

Sats are karma

Whoops.. I just game you some sat, I mean karma!

Gradually, then suddenly

At least for the fountain app for android. They really need to fix the bug where the podcast show suddenly stops up and you need to open the app on your phone and click play again. Really annoying when your walking and your phone is in your pocket. It wont get a big adoption in users when the podcast your are listening to gets paused for no reason multiple times people will just download another podcast app.

I already saw the effect of real money rewards in social media back in 2016 with Steemit. People go absolutely nuts chasing the top spot in the ladder. LN can bring this to all platforms and protocols, it's gonna be YUGE.

Bitcoiners are isolating themselves they use bitcoin blockchain abd nostr they are literally putting all their eggs in one basket. And it is becoming easier and easier to wipe them out as a result.
reply
"eggs in one basket" is fiat thinking. Bitcoin is money. Nostr creates a fully censorship-resistant social network, which is now becoming monetisable.
Bitcoin, first of all, is not "one basket" it is over 10k servers. Nostr is also some thousands of servers now too.
Centralisation is vulnerable in the way you talk about but there is nothing centralised about Bitcoin. Bitcoin's whole purpose and primary defense against being shut down is precisely distributing risk by allowing anyone to run a node, and the same thing is happening with Nostr.

People want free passive income, people don’t trust cryptocurrencies because they don’t understand them. Once there are many different ways to earn and send sats and people are desperate enough (that’s right, I believe most people will turn to crypto of inflation gets bad enough, they won’t understand or trust it, they will be desperate) mass adoption will happen reluctantly… unless some Steve jobs like figure comes forth to show the sheep the way. People don’t know what they want until you show it to them… I’m just hoping people don’t flock to whatever centrally controlled crypto governments inevitably roll out :/

I wouldn't worry too much. "free" social media is the cornerstone of surveillance capitalism. They will try to ignore it, even suppress discussion of it (like Twitter did), and then before you know it, DAU growth of Nostr will outpace all other social networks and the network effect will do the rest. Most of the incumbents are tapped out for new userbase. They simply don't have any further growth potential.
And they already have all the rails and pathways for their favourites to get closer to the fiat spigot. It just isn't a profit opportunity for them, and even if they try it's gonna be johnny come lately.

With all this AI stuff, it's harder to handle spam as well. Saw something where a sci-fi book submissions service was spammed to death.
Simple solution: require a payment for each submission. Spam now costs sats, gg.
