pull down to refresh

They have had tons of success late in drafts but their first round record is absolutely abysmal.

2 pro bowlers out of 9 picks and one of those guys went AWOL.

Only 5/9 are starting caliber players.

F them first round picks. Trade back or trade them for proven players.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but the Jets might have a better record in the first round over this time.

The Raiders don’t

Now I am curious. I need to check the receipts.

2017: Gareon Conley (who?)
2018: Kolton Miller
2019: Cle Ferrell (you know I like Cle but not with the 4th pick, maybe 4th round)
2019: Josh Jacobs
2019: Jonathon Abram
2020: Henry Ruggs III
2020: Damon Arnette
2021: Alex Leatherwood
2023: Tyree Wilson
2024: Brock Bowers
2025: Ashton Jeanty

Not great.

reply

should have asked themselves what Henry does. He Ruggs.

reply

He should sort of count as two, since we took Wilson over Carter because of the Ruggs accident.

reply

Miller, Jacobs, Bowers, and Jeanty probably are better than who the 49ers took, but in far more attempts.

reply

Those are good picks but overall results are bad. Raiders had a lot better draft position than the 49ers in almost all of these years.

reply

True, but Jacobs at least was a late 1st round pick.

Cle, Leatherwood, and Wilson were the real disasters.

reply

Way better.

2017: Jamal Adams
2018: Sam Darnold
2019: Quinnen Williams
2020: Mekhi Becton
2021: Zach Wilson and Alijah Vera-Tucker
2022: Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson
2023: Will McDonald
2024: Olu Fashanu
2025: Armand Membou

This is pretty darn good. Granted Jets had a lot higher picks during these years than the 49ers who only picked in the top 10 twice (one of those times they had to trade 3 first rounders to get there).

reply

Picking top-five is way different than picking first round. There's little difference between pick 25 and 35, but huge difference between 5 and 25.

reply

True most teams only have 20-25 first round draft grades. If you go by the Jimmy Johnson draft value chart there is a thousand point difference between pick 5 and 25 which is equivalent to pick 16 so 5 is worth the same as a mid and late first rounder.

reply

Yeah, and the Jets flipped both Adams and Gardner at way above what I'd expected them to get (and got a nice return on Williams as well).
