Good morning stackers from Southern Maryland where I am temporarily located for work. I wanted to share an update to #1436254 where I had found a a business hosted on BTCmaps simply because they had a square terminal. There's been a few disappointing stories posted recently such as #1471241 where merchants are unknowingly hosted on BTCmap and when approached about accepting sats don't know or don't care. It's frustrating, I know. Well hopefully this little update helps a bit.
When I originally came here there was only one location hosted on BTCmaps: The Detail Company
I have no need for a car detailer however I did verify their willingness to accept sats via email. They've been on BTC maps since December 2025. In February I noticed another business pop up, The Blue Wind Gourmet, I wrote about my experience paying with bitcoin and meeting the owner, Dana in the linked post above. @j7hB75 asked for an update so here it is:
So far, I've been both disappointed and excited about how things have gone. When I sat down with Dana originally, her curiosity and line of questioning really impressed me. Afterwards she asked me to send her some material to study for herself however I don't think any of it has been looked through and although we've been in contact since then there has been zero further inquiry into how/why Bitcoin. I won't push. I don't want to squander her relationship with Bitcoin by coming across as a pushy salesman. I understand she is a very busy person, with two kids and two businesses she runs herself. which brings me to a big HOWEVER:
Dana has been very accommodating to me when I request to pay in bitcoin. She never works the front counter of either of her businesses but if I preemptively text her before arriving she ensures the square terminal will be available to generate a lightning address. So her store is now the only place I will buy wine and I try to have a sandwich there a couple times a month. She messaged me one day to let me know that she had gone through the process of adding her second business to BTCmap and made sure to tell me they have a square terminal there 100% of the time, where it's only by request at Blue Wind. Here is that second spot: Juice Buzz I love it. They have great smoothies and sandwiches and juices. The first time I went I asked if I could pay with bitcoin for my smoothie and got the expected "uuuuh we don't do that" but with patience and kindness let the woman behind the counter know that I've been talking with Dana and that she should have set this up here at this Location. I let her know that after clicking Checkout on the square terminal she should see a bitcoin option. A couple seconds later she flipped over a LN invoice and I quickly sent over the sats. I gave a quick spiel about how cool what we just did was. I just mentioned that normally if you present a QR code from Cashapp or Venmo the sender would already have to be accepted into those networks in order to use them but with bitcoin that's not the case. Since it's all the same network there are many options from many parts of the world and I tried to emphasize how significant that is. Her response was slight confusion and general disinterest so I left it at that. She seemed impressed how quickly the transaction happened however.
I let Dana know about the experience and Thanked her for her effort thus far with her businesses. She then told me she was having a both-business staff meeting where she would mention that they should be prepared to accept bitcoin when asked and would train them on how to do so. Wonderful news! Dana has also told me that she's not interested in swapping the bitcoin she receives to USD. She wants to hold on to her sats. I dearly hope that lasts. I want her to have a fat stack of bitcoin really badly! So if you're in the area, please go support! The quality of her product is top notch and I think you'll agree that your sats are worth the experience in both of her locations.
Thank you for posting an update @SatAttack! This was very cool to see and also very promising. Although, I just can't help but realize how much friction there is and will be with vendor adoption.
There will be a ton of friction man. General awareness is very low and there will be many more disappointments than success stories like this one for some time. But trying is so important. We must try. If you think bitcoin really is a better monetary network than alternatives, then share your opinions to these merchants. Just finding a single one to start helps a lot.
I always like reading these stackers in the wild stories
Where one of our SN contributors finds new locations to spend their sats
All of these share a similar theme, the stacker is always patient and knowledgeable about lightning
The normally stressed shopkeeper goes from, I haven't got time for this, to at least partly orange pilled
It's almost like we (the shopkeeper and the stacker) are living in two completely seperate worlds
The normie lives in an anxious world with nothing but negativity and depressive dramas
The stacker lives in a positive, world of possibilities
And when the stacker shows the shopkeeper or explains part of our world, they are almost touched by it, they see a glimpse of what could be
Great work 👏 love reading these
Very cool, despite the disappointments. It's progress, and that's a win. I kinda want to orange pill my town and have them allocate a percentage of their revenue to Bitcoin, but the idea of getting into town politics is so daunting.
there’s no need for political jargon. bitcoin works well. start with the incentives. Firstly you are incentivized to do so because you would like your payment network to grow. Secondly a merchant is incentivized to escape outrageous visa fees and fostering the ability to accept sats. I love to remind merchants of the difference between the exclusionary networks like Venmo, Cashapp, Visa and the inclusionary network of Lightning. that seems to connect well often. Good luck
Thanks for this update! It's a great counterpoint to some of the less successful experiences other folks have had!
Truth when I ask annoying people for all there money the worst they could say is know but sometimes I get twenty dollars for having to talk to them for five minutes
hello?
