They reach every year. They have the most unique board of any team. Essentially they have their guys and don’t seem to care where they pick them. It’s an odd strategy. Probably why they hit so many late picks but flop on early picks.

I like all their picks so far but maybe not where they have taken them.

This one is actually good analysis

I do think they need to get better in the early rounds but the 49ers overall are not a bad drafting team and the past couple drafts have been pretty good despite experts hating them. They didn't hit any home runs the last two drafts but they got 7 starters and 16 out of 18 guys drafted the last two years are 53 man roster players.

They did have a few years where they were bad but the past couple years have clearly been good maybe not great.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt this year based on the last two drafts and the fact that this draft class mostly sucks.

Also he glosses over the fact they got a pro bowl level starting QB, and a pro bowl level starting CB and an all pro safety (no longer on team) in those drafts he called disastrous. I mean the drafts were bad but if you are going to cry about the misses acknowledge the hits as well.

I just wonder how much of that is elite coaching from Kyle fixing the GM’s drafting errors.

Imagine what Kyle could do with top tier talent and not having to rely on diamond in the rough lotto tickets

Kyle has a lot of power. I am not sure too many picks, especially on the offensive side of the ball, get picked without Kyle's ok but I know their position coaches get a lot of say in the guys they want. Maybe that's the problem.

It would be awesome if they brought in a great talent evaluator and gave him the reigns until pick 100 and then do whatever the hell they want after that.

he loves a 25 year old 5th+ year college kid

They love guys who have a lot of college reps. That is a remnant of the Trey Lance debacle. They don't take guys with limited experience now.

Guys are going to be coming out later more often now anyways but not sure 25 is great for a RB when they are usually washed up by 27.

Haha sounds about right.
