What a find!

On 12.2.1, can confirm it’s there. Wonder how long it will be before Apple remove the Easter egg

reply

Works on OS 13 as well. From this point forward I refuse to install any OS that does not have the Bitcoin whitepaper built in.

reply

Unless I’m blind I didn’t see it in 13.3

reply

It's on 13.2.1. Possible they've already removed it. I'm never updating!

reply

Interesting.

The file is found in every version of macOS from Mojave (10.14.0) to the current version (Ventura), but isn’t in High Sierra (10.13) or earlier.

So it might have lived from 10.14.0 to 13.2.1 if indeed it was removed.

In the Image Capture utility, the Bitcoin whitepaper is used as a sample document for a device called ā€œVirtual Scanner II,ā€ which is either hidden or not installed for everyone by default. It’s not clear why it’s hidden for some or what exactly it’s used for, but Reid Beels suggested it may power the ā€œImport from iPhoneā€ feature.

Fascinating. That sounds sonon purpose 😱

There are Bitcoiners in every big tech company. A few of them are open about it, and others content themselves dropping silent orange pills.

Came here to say the same thing.

Confirmed it's on macOS 13.2.1.

It's exactly the same file as bitcoin.pdf (same content and same metadata), just renamed to simpledoc.pdf

reply

Have you checked the hash of the file?
