At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if Apple deliberately ships insecure software in order to keep everyone updated on the latest OS. And in order to be able to deploy 'automatic updates', in the name of personal safety.

And this is bad because they can bundle fixes with other unwanted changes, right?
As a developer, I would love to have all my users on the same version of software. It can quickly become a nightmare to maintain several versions. I think this is one reason why SaaS has become so common. That, in combination with subscription billing models.
