i think they’re one of the most underrated projects in the space. decentralized identity isn’t a sexy problem with instant profit potential, but it is very important to get right.
It really feels like the Bitcoin/Lightning builders are entirely immune from the market action, so many cool projects are being launched these days, and metrics across the Lightning ecosystem are looking better than ever.
I don't think the messaging is native. The base of the stack is DID, verified credentials, and data stores. Apps can be built on top of that. TBDex will be one of the apps and that will be the messaging system.
The technical details kind of go over my head, is there a way to build decentralized identifiers and verifiable credentials without the decentralized web nodes?
Very intriguing. I'm not familiar with the ION project at all, though. From a quick glance at the docs it looks like it might operate in a similar way to LN but for identity. Anyone have some good places to read up on this project?
Bitcoin Mag also has a write up: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/jack-dorseys-tbd-presents-bitcoin-based-decentralized-web5
Thx @k00b
Keeping a close eye on TBD. Hopefully they ship something out relatively soon!

So much awesome stuff is being built this bear market 😊

This has a lot of promise. I’m not sure how I feel about them building in a native messaging layer though. Do we really need that?

I spoke with Block's Head of Decentralized Identity a couple weeks ago to understand how their vision of decentralized identity works.

I like that they use schema.org types for this too.
The web is already decentralized, we just need to get back to the old habits of self hosting stuff
Awesome decentralized stuff: (link to Google Doc)
Sigh. Every time.
Yeah, but don't you think that's kind of more down to earth than own website or something?
Snake oil.
we didn't even have web3 or web4, so why the jump to web5?
It’s a Pun. Look at slide #3 😉
Unsure if I like the naming. It kind of acknowledges the relevance of web3?
Also I don't like that it implies that it is just the next version? I want it to be more of the final form of the web

That’s exciting. Feels like an important “white paper”
