Well, our dear Bitcoin has made its way into Hollywood. Amazon's MGM studios are reportedly in the early stages of producing a movie based on the $3 billion Bitfinex hack. The movie would highlight the lives of the couple involved in the "biggest Bitcoin heist of all time', with Hannah Marks set to direct.
In case you're wondering, 'Razzlekhan' is the club identity for the woman who, like 'Lady Macbeth', instigated or at least convinced her husband to carry out a heist on Bitfinex in 2016 with 94643 Bitcoins. When the couple was arrested in 2022, the value of these stolen Bitcoins amounted to over 3 billion.
The movie's script is largely based on the NYT's cover story, which referred to the pair as the 'Bonnie and Clyde' of the crypto economy.
The couple, Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan (who isn't only an entrepreneur but also a rapper), were arrested by the FBI in 2022 and charged with laundering Bitcoins. However, the film's story will dramatize the episode and portray the couple's psyche after and before the hack.
While the Bitfinex hack shocked everyone and led to serious consequences, we're set to witness the entry of Bitcoin into Hollywood, albeit with a criminal couple, the Bonnie and Clyde of Bitcoin.
How do you feel about glamourising such criminal characters in movies? Will you be going to see 'Razzlekhan' when it hits theaters?
