Every time I go home for the holidays to visit my parents, the atmosphere is one of tension.
If bitcoin comes up peripherally in any way, via YouTube, the foreign language news (being naturalized immigrants), or in any conversation among guests, my mom holds her elbows in anticipation of an argument breaking out.
Between me and my dad, there were shouting matches. His disapproval of my allocation size, and of course the usual fud he or any other nor is would bring up.
Fights were so ugly, the last two years were one giant egg shell.
I had no avenue to explain how amazing bitcoin is bc he shuts it all down, shouts me down, tells me to sell, I’m ruining my life etc.
So today, something giant happened in my personal bitcoin journey.
The halving? Big whoop
The etf? Peanuts
70% of wallets not moving in 1 year and 80% in 6 months? Small fry.
The most bullish thing I could have heard these last 2 years? MY DAD ASKED ME WHICH BITCOIN ETF TO BUY!!!!!!
My dad who hated bitcoin more than Charlie munger ever could. He wants in!
He dosn’t get bitcoin, but he understands the etf is a big deal. He understands the giant upside potential.
I never thought I’d see this day. Just wanted to share.

If your dad buying is bullish, then how are we going to have an indicator to sell?!
Do you by chance have a grandmother?

Good for him. I guess, ETFs make Bitcoin super “hot” for many people now as the transaction costs are nearly zero (no need to study bitcoin, buy a hardware wallet, open an account at an exchange, move money and Bitcoin here and there, etc). Maybe he will become more open to Bitcoin now and one day he decides for self custody too?
reply
That what I’m hoping too.
I’ve been encouraging everyone in my circle to self custody. A couple listened.
Most still keep it on the exchange.

Pretty soon, he will be buying BTC because who needs the ETF when you can have the real thing. Send him some sats from me then xP

Yeah well, I’ve been to meet ups and have met people my dads age who were pretty gung ho on bitcoin.
My dad tends to be super risk averse. The volitility along with the fud got to him.
But he means well. Just wants to make sure I’m not over my skis here. Guess he was concerned about my enthusiasm that most bitcoiners get when I fell down the rabbit hole.

What are the chances you think you’ll be closed to new ideas when you get older? It’s close to a certainty without vigilance
