When I look at the people who are making the world a better place, they all have one strength in common: they stretch themselves out between the present and the future, living in both times simultaneously.
Here's how they do it:
-
They look at the world and decide that it should be, can be, must be better.
-
They come up with a dream of how it could be better in the future.
-
And then they look at the present moment and say, 'Here's what I can do right now to start making that future a reality.'
They reach for their hopes and remain grounded in reality, at the same time. They see the potential and the practical. They have their eyes to the sky while keeping both feet firmly on the ground.
We can follow in their footsteps. And how does it benefit us? Because in doing good for others, we end up experiencing happiness for ourselves.
Old Happy: “I'll never be able to make the world better."
New Happy: “I can do something to make it better right now."
You, as a reader of this newsletter, are a part of an incredible community, made up of over a million people that live in every corner of the world. We, as a community, have the power to make the world a happier one. Today, let's all take action, collectively in spirit, and each do our little bit to make the world a more beautiful place.
Let's look around at the people in our homes, or those we pass on our way to work, or those who sit across from us at lunch, or those whose names are sitting in our phone contacts, or those in our community who are unjustly treated, or those in our society who need a helping hand. Family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, strangers, humans. The people who need us.
And let's do something to help make their day a little bit better.
Every small act makes a difference.
And as you do yours, think about your fellow community members all over the world who are simultaneously taking action. Know that you are contributing to a great wave of love, support and kindness, one that makes the world a happier place.
