Obviously streaming is taking a bite into box office revenues but there is also the fact that hollywood has been churning out absolute garbage lately.

Sure not everyone will agree but I think Denis Villeneuve is keeping the 21st Century box office on life support.
Would be good if cinemas (the non-independent cinemas) showed somewhat more daring, thought-provoking and geographically varied motion pictures, not just those that exist for the sole purpose of entertainment and highest grossing ticket sales.
Maybe documentaries, conferences and film festivals will be the future box office.

Yes, churning out garbage to the lowest common denominator that also can’t piss off the CCP is not going to draw people in. People that still have money to burn in cinemas are reading user reviews before buying a ticket now.

Tickets for movies are insanely expensive (at least where I live). It doesn't incentive many people to go to the theater. You just wait a couple of months, and see it in your streaming platform of choice, in the comfort of your home.

Been rough for hollywood for sure, the franchise bubble seems to have peaked, super hero fatigue has set in, the actual product is also not as good, and customers have to look at smaller and smaller discretionary spending, and don't think seeing a movie is worth the price
If a movie is mediocre, why not just wait for it to come out on streaming?
We've also seen far fewer releases each year versus the peak, so less options/reasons to go

No one gives a shit. Or rather, people are very siloed. Plus, why go see it in a theater when it will be free streaming in like a month? I work in the film industry and things are not happening right now. We are overdue for an industry collapse / evolution. We need original ideas! So sick of this rehashed, "low risk" IP bullshit. No disrespect to Dune. I actually worked on Dune a small bit and it was great.
