I asked Stackers about their posting routine. I learn that some of you only post when you feel that you have something worthwhile to say. Or you feel that there is no need to initiate a new thread because you can comment on the existing ones.
I got reminded of this proverb:
I would actually like you not to censor yourself but make it a regular habit to post your thoughts. To me, it’s a clear-cut decision. If my work is not well-received, it will not receive a lot of zaps. And believe me, I have had my fair share of posts with ZERO zaps. But if Stackers like my post enough, then I will get to stack sats and gain insights on what you guys like to read. Either way, it’s a win/win situation for me.
I have been a freelance writer for close to ten years, but writing regularly on SN has taught me a lot about my niche as well as audience engagement. I think sometimes you just need to do something often enough to collect enough data to draw conclusions. For example, my habit of posting a photo every day led me to post photo essays about Japan - since I have tons of photos from my trips. I think over time, as the photos on my phone become more manageable, I am able to pick up patterns and themes that bind the seemingly disparate images together. Yesterday, I just posted a photo essay on how Japan is a child-friendly nation. I wouldn’t be able to achieve this if I haven’t been posting a photo a day.
Sometimes, you just need to decide to do something and see how it evolves.
Another example is my blog, Fighting the Daily Grind. It started out as a coping mechanism for me to detoxify from my work frustrations and struggles. But sometime along the way, I decided to focus on positive things too. So it has evolved into a showcase of some of the things I have been doing for work. I EVEN SENT MY COLLEAGUES THE SN LINKS LIKE A BOSS. I now see SN as the Bitcoin-powered version of LinkedIn. Want to know how dedicated and creative Sensei is? Read my SN blogs! I love how I’m not separating my professional and personal lives. Since they are interwoven together, I feel lighter and more powerful.
Ending this with a photo on Japan because it’s calming to the soul 😀
One of my goals is to help Big Tech alternatives eat into the legacy platforms. Commenting and zapping are the ways to make people find SN more rewarding, so I try to prioritize that over making my own posts. Obviously, I do lots of the later as well, though.

You can start by zapping each of my posts 33,333 sats 😜

You'd have a stronger case if you weren't writing about how much you love Stacker News everyday. I consider you a mission accomplished.

Thank you so much for giving idea about posting. I am reading almost all of your posts since i joined SN. I am trying my best to feel more comfortable about expressing myself in SN :)

You should just write about what you already know. It’s groundbreaking information for Stackers like me haha

You're a fit to be a very good mentor. I follow everything that you say about posting and I can tell everyone that your guides are equipped with everything that 'we should apply to get engagement on SN'. Thank you @cryotosensei

I’m all right. We all bring something distinctive to the table. I like how you tried to probe deep into the identities of the Stackers in hiding xP

Good proverb sensei, there are days that I hardly post, because I feel that I have nothing to add, there are days that I see posts that I like a lot and I publish a lot, I don't feel that I need a routine, but each one has a methodology and it is acceptable, you have seen that it works for you and you are executing it.

Well said. N btw my daughter is my second child. I have an older son.

I've fallen off the pace in terms of posting regularly because sometimes I'm unsure whether or not my post will be well received, but your post has encouraged me to start posting more regularly and consistently regardless of how they do, because a big part of why I started doing this aside from the V4V element was to get myself out of my comfort zone and to further grow and develop myself. Arigatou sensei!

Happy that you are putting yourself out there! As an experienced writer and teacher, I can honestly say that even though I try my best to anticipate the audience’s response, sometimes I get it totally wrong. Posts that I think will make barely a squeak gain more traction than the ones that I feel really confident about. And there’s the joy of writing, I reckon. You never know what you are gonna expect xP
Rock on! 🤘
