Not sure what genre this band is in, but the band name -- Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys -- is enough to establish that whatever genre, it's weird. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KARl80kEyHA

They've got an old school rock sound, but with a newer age sound at the same time. There are parts where I think I hear Aerosmith influence.
Cool track šŸ‘Š

dark and groovy.

Dark and groovy is an apt description. The voice reminds me a little of the guy from the Kaiser chiefs. But also he's using loads of effects to sound muted and stuff so it's probably not a great comparison.
Cool track though Jess, I enjoyed it šŸ‘Š

Hello yall, Starting my day with a skinshape song.
reply
I'm not familiar with skinshape, but I really enjoyed that. It's got that almost jazz feel with the percussion but it's not really traditional jazz. I'm not sure where to place it. But it can certainly find it's way into the "like" column. I can't tell if the main melody is played by a violin or an erhu? It's got that south east Asian sound to it. But that might just be the style of playing from a violinist. Really clever. Cheers for the submission really enjoyed listening to it šŸ‘Š
reply
And today I learned that there is something called an erhu! I've definitely heard something that sounded like a different type of violin before, but I just assumed it was like acoustic guitars where you can have widely varying tones depending on size and shape.
reply
Traditional oriental string instrument.

They're pretty interesting! Now that I know that I'm going to have to listen closer to some songs now and see if I hear any difference.

Judgement Day - Five Finger Death Punch

Judgement Day (Acoustic) - Five Finger Death Punch

https://youtube.com/watch?v=M1y1EGI_UZE I always appreciate groups that record acoustic variations of some of their songs! They also remixed parts of this song into a posthumous collaboration with DMX, and it sounds good there too.
reply
I love a stripped back acoustic version of something, especially when it comes from a band that's normally quite aggressive in their sound. The addition of DMX (RIP) was šŸ”„ aswell. I got a lot of time for FFDP, they get a lot of hate for being really formulaic ... But honestly in my opinion, if it sounds good, formulaic or not, then it sounds good.
reply
I can see where they're coming from sometimes, but I agree, it still sounds good! Plus, I like Moody's vocals better than many other groups, so that helps a lot.
reply
I really.like Moody's vocals he brings a raw anger to the aggressive tracks and a raw level of hurt to the softer ones. Some of those tracks can really be gut punching.
