I've been seriously considering creating my own song for the purpose of uploading to Wavlake just to be able to experience using the platform.
I've shared the v4v concept with a couple of the artists that I represent and the response has been both curiosity (+ many more questions to follow) and apprehension. Even knowing that the current system of remuneration gobbles up their earnings and their data, some artists just prefer the devil that you know.
I do understand this feeling. Often, with the unknown, we feel overwhelmed and we retreat back to the comfort of what we know, whether good or bad for us.
I do wonder though, can the acceptance of v4v as a valid model of payment for creators come after the acceptance of the concept of Bitcoin as a decentralized currency and protocol?
For me, if v4v leads me to earn in sats, then I'd want to know how hard that currency is before I even sign up as a contributor under v4v. That's just me though, I'm more of a completist and I've been getting better at simply jumping in and trying things out without having all of the details.
For other creators, I can see the concept of v4v serving as a strong entry point to the world of Bitcoin. I do think that I have to improve my understanding of it, and therefore this will strengthen my description of it when sharing about its potential with others.
This leads me back to the idea of creating my own song so that I can learn firsthand what the experience of uploading to Wavlake as an artist could be like.
Strangely enough, even though I've been an audio engineer and working with artists, songwriters, and musicians for over two decades, I am not a musician. I've only been helping get that music message across via my recordings, mixes and masters.
I've tried a few basic song ideas throughout the years, but no serious attempts to actually create a song to share with others.
Right now, my idea is to start with a few field recordings I've been compiling throughout the years. These will serve as the low intensity, jump-off point to get the creativity flowing and start layering other elements with them.
I've also considered documenting the whole process and sharing here as a bonus to provide context, but I'm afraid that might kill the momentum and get me back into the technical mindset of how to actually achieve that.
Just an idea that I'm slowly building. Creating the opportunity has been my mode for moving forward in 2024. I'm done waiting for others to validate my point of view.
As always, I welcome your viewpoints, especially if you've been thinking about, or have created something similar.
