the thing about social engineering attacks is that they aren't really technical people using them necessarily- it's people short circuiting the 'dont trust, verify ' part of our brain.
please understand that the kind of skills used to steal your bitcoin have been used before at Western Unions, banks, etc and definitely not refined, they're just hoping you didn't understand them moving over to a new platform.

Great information for Bitcoiner's, but general populations, too. I recommend adapting and sharing with parents, grandparents, older siblings and friends. My mother is starting to get lots of social engineering calls as she is high net worth, single and elderly.

I listened to this last night. The kid is largely full of shit wrt himself, saying all sorts of contradictory things, but I suspect the scam is legit.
The fascinating part, to me, is the psychology and justifications of a scammer. Their justifications fall short of real consideration, yet they need to justify it. In his case, he had two justifications:
  1. it's easy money
  2. if I can scam them, I deserve the money more than they do
Both are common but (2) is especially interesting to me. I've heard hackers use similar logic, "if I can break their systems, I am more skilled than the system designers." This isn't how expertise and systems and wealth work obviously. Yet, they assume a high position in a hierarchy entitles them to harm the people below them.

Its actually scary how many people have started to use social engineering attacks at scale, when listening to that interview its really people who have no idea what they bought or how it works, the fiat system has really crippled people and ensured that they trust instead of verifying
I don't see these attacks going away because theres an endless supply of suckers who are buying bitcoin but would hand over their seed phrase if you're convincing enough over the phone
A good reminder that you are the first and last line of defense

People become susceptible as they age. Not necessarily dumb or uneducated. You could say inexperienced.
