Do our phones secretly listen to us?

So many times I've seen ads or some other content on different channels relating to something I've been talking about with friends and family. There are probably times when I've googled something and forgotten... but I can't escape this nagging feeling that something is listening a little bit too closely.
Any good anecdotes or outlandish conspiracy theories doing the rounds?

i mean , this is funny to say the least in the 90's we beleived it could be just advertizing tracking( which it is) but the more sinister side is the patents. did you know router equipment has a modest ability to see and trace outlines around where people are in the house, when the information is deducted correctly.

its not a conspiracy. They do listen and post things you would look at. Try it as an experiment sometime with a friends phone.

Really?! Is it hidden away in the OS T&Cs? Seems an overreach to be able to eavesdrop without making it quite clear that's what's happening.

Im not sure, but I know facebook will put ads about things you talk about. Its more fun to do with a friends phone because they shouldnt be looking up the same thing.
