Paul George has signed with Philly, as expected. Embiid, George, and Maxey are a pretty great Big 3.
In bigger news, Isaiah Hartenstein has signed with OKC, which will allow Chet to play the 4.
All in all, things are looking up for us to have yet another new champion this year.
I have decided I have no clue how the NBA cap works. How can the Celtics afford White 30 plus mill when they are paying Porzingis 30M, Holiday 30M, Tatum 35M, Brown almost 50M. They are way over the cap and in luxury tax territory with just 5 guys.
reply
The new cap rules basically just make it a bigger and bigger pain in the ass to manage your roster as you spend more.
There are a bunch of trade and free agent restrictions that the Celtics will have, but teams are usually allowed to keep resigning their guys as long as they're willing to pay the incredibly steep taxes.
reply
Gotcah so it's really just a soft cap. You can spend 500M if you want you just end up paying a billion in luxury tax or something like that.
reply
That's been the Clippers and Warriors strategy in recent years.
I don't know all the ins-and-outs, but there are a bunch of new provisions that create a hard salary cap after teams make certain roster moves.

I opened up SN to post these Woj bombs, but you beat me to it by 2 hours.
Big upgrade for OKC in the rebounding department, which they desperately need. Chet able to play the 4 is also another upgrade. He's too skinny to play the 5. Let's go OKC for championship!
Out of the new Philly big 3, only Maxey had proven to step up an extra notch during the playoffs. The other 2 tend to dominate in the beginning of the playoffs, and become more and more transparent the further they go. I'm not convinced this one will work until they prove me wrong.
reply
I'm with you on Philly, but the roster is coming together about as well as it reasonably could have. Embiid has all the makings of a guy who retires without a ring, to me.
reply
Damn OKC isn't messing around.
George is a great addition for the 76ers but I don't trust him or Embiid during the playoffs.
Good job SN Woj!

Injury prone players in Philadelphia?
reply
Maybe they should sign Gordon Hayward and Klay, too.
reply
Embiid and George have had chronic injuries?
reply
That's a big move! Paul George joining the Philadelphia is certainly a significant development in the NBA. It'll be interesting to see how he fits into their lineup and impacts their performance next season.
