“When Satoshi announced the first release of the software, I grabbed it right away,” said Finney in a 2013 post on Bitcointalk.org. “I think I was the first person besides Satoshi to run Bitcoin. I mined block 70-something, and I was the recipient of the first bitcoin transaction when Satoshi sent ten coins to me as a test. I carried on an email conversation with Satoshi over the next few days, mostly me reporting bugs and him fixing them.”
Finney was one of the first people to respond to Satoshi’s post on the cypherpunks mailing list, with many in the space still believing he was one of the pseudonymous individuals behind the creation of Bitcoin. Sadly, the legendary crypto pioneer passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis — ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease — in 2014. He would have been 66 years old in 2022.
It's amazing watching Hal essentially breath life into the project while most of the other punks were doubtful it would ever work. Without Hal we certainly would not have Bitcoin as it is today.

I really wonder what they would say if they saw the space now. From Satoshi and Hal sending coins in amazement to the massive scale the industry is now is beautiful
