Many people, out of ignorance still uses applications like, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, Line, it is simply unreal that with the wave of massive information we have still people choose to do so. It is like choosing on being spied on and having their data sold to any bidder...
Signal Messenger is perhaps the best of the old generation lot of messenger apps together with Threema and Session App, but all of them have their issues...

You mean you cant find it in your app store? Users can download the apk directly from the web site or Github more advance users will use Obtainium...

Another very useful alternative is BRIAR, which I find to be quite robust in terms of its focus on privacy. It is decentralized, does not use email or phone numbers, encrypts messages and removes metadata in images, among other features. I have been testing it recently and it works quite well.
