Zhao, one of the most influential figures in the cryptocurrency world, has been in prison in California since receiving his sentence in April and, according to records from the Department of Corrections, his release date was set for this coming Sunday.
The 47-year-old Canadian businessman pleaded guilty in November 2023 to violating U.S. anti-money laundering laws, resigned from his position as CEO and accepted a $50 million fine as part of a deal with the Department of Justice.
