There is a principle called homophily. It sounds like a high-brow concept, but when pared down to its essentials, it just means that we prefer to associate and create connections with those who are like us. Because birds of a feather flock together, this gives rise to a phenomenon known as social contagion.
Social contagion means that people who are closely bonded with one another will gradually adapt their behaviours and mannerisms to align with the predominant norms of the group.
This made me wonder. How has you changed as a result of hanging out so often at Stacker News? Or Stacker News is just like Homecoming for you, where you find kindred spirits left right and centre and assimilate smoothly into the network?

I could be in a bubble by spending so much time here versus other social media, but that’s ok, it’s happy here. It started like a Hacker News for Bitcoin, but has become so much more.

The introduction of territories has really spiced things up

It's much easier to be myself here. I found other social media sites brought out more aggressive and provocative takes, because no one really engages with anything else.
Stackers generally prefer more deliberate and thoughtful comments.

If we think about it that way, then there is homophilia in me... because since I've been in the burrow🐰 and I got to S.N my perspective has totally changed..!! Personally, almost the first thing I do when I turn on my laptop or phone is go to Stakers news.. I like the feeling or emotion of seeing if someone commented or responded to any of my posts or comments, not because I'm worried about whether they gave me sats or not.. but rather because the information that I can share or that they can share with me is important!! And it makes me feel accepted and that I'm contributing to our society on the net.. and I'm sure that the same thing happens to several of us🙃🙃

i am learning to be nicer & more intelligent or else i won't get zapped!
it's a balance between attacking wrong-thinkers unapologetically and yet not making comments sound too personal, as well as doing my best to be smarter than the day before.

People are awesome here compared to other Social Platforms! That's all I can say. Thank you everyone out there on Stacker News!
