BTC wouldn’t have reached this point without this first transaction but I mean damn that has to hurt a little bit lol
IIRC, he was mining a substantial fraction of blocks at the time and doing so well that he was looking to distribute the proceeds a bit. This was much more likely a conscious decision, not a shortsighted mistake. After all, a monetary medium works better when there's some distribution and not just a single owner. Let's also not pretend like Laszlo traded the entirety of his bitcoin for two pizzas.

It wasnt a mistake. That was what bitcoin was worth at that time.

Came in to say this. If that was a mistake, then buying any pizza in 2010 was a mistake because you could have bought bitcoin at the time.
Moreover, Laszlo is now forever enshrined in Bitcoin history. That is worth two pizzas from 2010.
reply
Oh 110% agree it’s just that knowing you would have had a $1 million in 14 years later is wild
reply
You really love tooting the fiat horn.
reply
Ummm that’s generational wealth he could sell a single BTC a year rn and live a life most would kill for.
It’s wild that you don’t think $1 billion is legacy changing money
reply
I’m not saying it was a mistake it was the first purchase of something with BTC which led to us being here! I’m just saying $1 billion is a wild amount that has to hurt a little
reply
Exactly, bro walked so the rest of us could run
reply
Laszlo didn't make a mistake.
He made history.
reply
I am sure that wasn’t the only Bitcoin Laszlo had. I just hope he kept some.
reply
I know someone followed up with him years later and I can’t remember what his BTC situation was
reply
Thank you Laszlo it was a Neil Armstrong moment
reply
I think it is irrelevant how much that amount is worth in Fiat today, since that first transaction was what gave life to what we can enjoy today as the greatest asset in the entire history of humanity.
reply
Lol they're going to rehash this headline every cycle until its a trillion dollar mistake like oh Laz could have paid down the national debt with 2 pizzas, STFU
