This is a pretty stunning rebuke of Trump by 38 Republicans. One thing though that was said in closing by Approps Chairman Cole was “individually every part of the bill Democrats fully supported”. However, because some things were cut they decided to tank it.
Dems did get bailed out though by the 38 Republicans who just fired warning shots and are going to experience hell from Trump now. Of the 38 honestly every troublemaker I've seen cause issues in the party voted no and there were maybe a couple of surprises but for the most part it was the troublemakers doing what they do… cause issues.
Odds are a bunch of these people will fly out tomorrow as well to go enjoy their Christmas break. Meanwhile you have House staffers, like myself, get paid the last business day of the month. We only get 12 paychecks a year and so if we don't have funding passed before then we don't get a paycheck while EVERY Member of Congress gets theirs. Mind you we are deemed essentially workers required to work still with us getting backpay while plenty of others get furloughed and then back pay. Christmas is just shaping up to be great 🙃
Time for a sickcation

If okay! Depending on the status of everything and hell if I have a job come Jan 3 might not even work out for me 🥴
reply
Ugh. Sorry -- I hadn't realized it would hit paychecks for work already done, or that folks there are paid monthly instead of biweekly.
I am curious what will happen to those 38 (and surprised to see two Dems jump the aisle). I don't recognize most of them (though Chip Roy was clearly going to vote this way), but am not surprised to see Nancy Mace there, and she seems determined to always be in the spotlight these days.

So most of the people on that list were Freedom Cacus people orrrr trouble makers. Spartz for instance has come out and said even though she was elected as a Republican she won't caucus with them and wont sit on any committees next year.
The only ones that stuck out to me was Wesley Hunt, Michael Cloud, and John Curtis. Those are all really pretty level-headed and good Members. John Curtis for example was elected to the Senate for Romneys seat.

I love Thomas Massie

What a clown show
reply
Hey don't insult the clowns like that! This is a spectacular display of a flaming pile of shit
reply
The clown show is wasting taxpayer money on frivolous programs and employees
reply
Absolutely but the shutdown is just the theatre for the clown show
reply
The last shutdown was in 2018.
reply
And even if they don't shut down they make a spectacle out of it so
reply
Outrageous because spectacles are rare in Congress
Pearl clutching over spectacles is also a spectacle
reply
government shutdown is a feature not a bug
reply
It should be a last resort option though and the last few years it's been anything but. They just threaten it and maybe shut it down for a bit but at the end they don't change anything
reply
I hate this feature
reply
By far the worst
reply
We want a shutdown so the new Congress can take action on Jan 3
reply
Well the "we" you are talking about is a dramatic minority so there's that.
reply
What is a dramatic minority? Please quantify
reply
Well its pretty easy to see and well numbers do not lie... The vast majority of Americans do not want the government shut down. The majority of Republican voters do not want the government shut down yet we have a very vocal group that thinks once again this is the end of the world passing this legislation.
Republicans KNOW that if the government shuts down it is going to be used against us just like it was in 2018. The Party isn't stupid otherwise they wouldn't have stayed to try and hammer out a deal.
Your BFF Rep. Massie would have LEFT D.C. since today was an out-of-session day and not have stayed as he has.
reply
Numbers do not lie but pollsters lie all the time
let the new Congress take action on Jan 3
6 years since the last shutdown is too long
shutdowns need to be annual so voters can see the fiscal dysfunction in DC
reply
That is a new level of stupidity but ya know you said it with your chest so that means something. When Trumps inauguration goes sideways because they were able to plan since all those NPS people were furloughed maybe you'll see the issues
reply
Furloughs keep people on their toes
Furloughs separate essential from non essential employees
They are a feature not a bug
reply
No they drive the qualified people to the private sector and allow incompetence to come in.
You live in a bubble
reply
No I actually live in a level of hell but nice try
reply
It’s still a bubble 🫧 The two are not mutually exclusive
reply
Lol ya know you are just starting to crack me up imma give it to ya. You live in a bubble where your paycheck doesn't poof off if we don't pass this so yeah that's a hell of a bubble to be in must be nice not to worry
reply
stop playing the victim card stop with the emotional blackmail
Fiscal policy should not be determined by congressional staffers complaining about compensation
reply
We literally write the bills do you really think Massie does ANYTHING like that 😂
Massie voted against plan B.
New Congress convenes on Jan 3.
My Christmas wish is a government shutdown!

The 2018-19 shutdown was certainly not bad for investors. The S&P gained 10.3 percent during the last shutdown. During the 16-day shutdown in 2013, the S&P 500 experienced a gain of about 3.1 percent. If anything, the market seems to like shutdowns.
The effects on the economy, in any case, are likely to be so slight as to not matter. Certainly, lawmakers considering whether to vote for legislation or shut down the government should not worry about how this will impact jobs, wages, or growth. We will be just fine economically even if the government shuts down until Trump is sworn in to his second term.

Our credit rating would take a hit for sure which only would fuel our National Debit issue but I mean sure besides that.
Also the House Members are supposed to represent their constituents and getting them furloughed kinda isn't doing that 😂 if you lose your job due to your Member shutting down the govnt kinda an issue lmao
