I wonder if this is a big deal or a nothing burger. Due to Chinas culture I think that an ex-president would have never been a possible challenger to Xis power - you just don't become first secretary twice in a lifetime.

But China getting from regime to dictatorship is an obvious development right now. Let's hope Xi does not become crazy or become paranoid...
