Some of the metal seed storage plates come with black paint on it, and you scratch it off to write the seed. Have these been tested? Will they hold up like a regular plate would?

They wouldn't hold up because pain burns. One of the main reasons to use seedplate.com is for your seed to have a better chance at surviving house fires.

Idk but for me the point about steel plates was the steel. No matter if it floods or house fire or anything - steel is steel. If the lacquering provides the same then I'd say go for it
