This is the big question right now. How much confidence should we have in these claims?
Hopefully, they'll produce some better documentation at some point.

My working hypothesis is that DOGE is going to claim much better victories than it actually achieves. (As with any government or pseudo-government agency; or any institution, really).
So we're going to see more of this.

I'm expecting a lot of the identified malfeasance to turn out to be sloppy record keeping errors, but we'll see.

Looks like someone got a little excited with the numbers, probably just a mistake!
reply
Sure, but how many other mistakes are there?
The Social Security numbers, in particular, are pretty outlandish. I want to see more documentation on this stuff, but I understand that proper disclosures do take time.

Just kidding, but seriously, it’s hard to trust when things don't add up.
reply
don't trust, verify.
this is ultimately my issue with doge. it is elon touting all of these alleged savings, all of this alleged fraud and alleged abuse and alleged criminal activity and he has the largest mouthpiece of anyone in the world. but there is no way to fact check him in real time. and once he has shouted these things from the rooftops, almost all people from his party and many from the opposing one will believe them because "why would he lie"
When (or more likely IF) he every issues a correction, its too late and the damage is done.
But ultimately, I think this is a feature not a bug. When asked about this specifically, he said, "I will make lots of mistakes, no one bats 1000" and he presented no solution. The point is to sow distrust and he is doing an effective job so kudos
