You give Mozilla all rights necessary to operate Firefox, including processing data as we describe in the Firefox Privacy Notice, as well as acting on your behalf to help you navigate the internet. When you upload or input information through Firefox, you hereby grant us a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use that information to help you navigate, experience, and interact with online content as you indicate with your use of Firefox.
They updated their blog with:
We’ve seen a little confusion about the language regarding licenses, so we want to clear that up. We need a license to allow us to make some of the basic functionality of Firefox possible. Without it, we couldn’t use information typed into Firefox, for example. It does NOT give us ownership of your data or a right to use it for anything other than what is described in the Privacy Notice.
Here's the privacy notice where the assorted terms are spelled out.

Honestly this sounds like a change to avoid being sued vs a change in behaviour. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what this sounds like to me.
Regardless, everytime I read stuff like this it reminds me of the absurdity of IP. Life we OWN the text we type in a browser. It's really silly.
If you don't trust Mozilla though I don't blame you. I don't either. Checkout Libre Wolf.

geetest does not seem to work on librewolf.

But geetest does work on Epiphany.

I think @k00b needs to update the policy of SN to ensure we maintain ownership of everything we type on this site....
Doesn't that sound silly? 🤡🤡🤡

I haven’t touched Forefox in years.
Been using Brave since like 2016

im trying out ironfox on android as an alternative 🤙

I recently switched to IronFox, and it's really good. Just like Mull, it's a fork of Mull since the DivestOS project got shut down and will no longer be maintained. Along with IronFox, I'm using Cromite as well. Have you tried it?
reply
i have not. i use vanadium on graphene as well, and also tor browser
reply
I've heard Vanadium is already a great browser, so there's no need to try Cromite then. Thanks

Why the fuck does software I run locally on my machine need a privacy policy?
I'm not interacting with Mozilla at all. Same way I'm not interacting with Home Depot when I use a hammer I bought from them to pound in a nail.

Almost same language as 3.3.2 of Facebook terms of service. This line caused so so much controversy decades ago, then people got used to it

holy shit it's real.
What were they thinking

Mozilla gotta monetise! No ones keen on paying for a browser

Is Firefox ESR the same?
If so, what are the best alternatives for use on a linux laptop?
reply
It looks like i will have to remove Firefox from all of my machines and devices. It looks like everyone has to make money on our data. Doesn’t make me feel good. I’ve lost those good feelz.

Maybe you can try using forked versions of Firefox? For desktop, you can use LibreWolf, and on Android (if you use it), you can try Fennec, IceRaven, and the best one now is IronFox. All of them are open source and you xan download from GitHub or F-Droid.

I have used Palemoon for both Linux and Windows before. I also have used Opera and several other smaller unknown type on Linux. I generally use Brave.

This couldn't have come at better times than now when the interest for Mozilla is at all time low.
