I definitely believe bitcoin should be used, not just “hodled.” At Synonym, we're always working to make using Bitcoin smoother and more practical with Bitkit—our self-custodial Bitcoin and Lightning wallet. Recently, we launched QuickPay for fast, approval-free Lightning payments. We also introduced the Fee Weather Widget to help you time transactions and save sats, and our Bitcoin-to-Fiat calculator lets you instantly convert between BTC and your local currency without switching apps or screens.

Now, we're shifting our focus to making it even easier to spend your Bitcoin. Soon, you'll be able to buy even more of what you love, directly from Bitkit.

So, I'm curious: what do you currently pay for with BTC, and what would you like to pay for?

I feel good using btc for travel expenses. It gives me a special kind of satisfaction ;)

I have always wanted to pay my credit card directly with btc lol.

reply

You can with Strike. But why?

  1. Amazon gift cards
  2. Cowboy credits

All the things I don't want on my credit card bill. Stuff the wife wouldn't care to see. Things the feds... Hey wait a minute!

Echoing @optimism: Bitrefill gift cards, specifically supermarket and food takeout ones

I wouldn’t mind paying for my real-life bills with sats. I did it before, but the process failed the second time I tried it, so I haven’t tried it again since

Mostly online things tbh. But sometimes I do pay my friends with btc.
I wish I could just pay for everyday groceries without so many hoops.

Love what you guys do with Bitkit. Kudos. Spending for me is not a real issue given where I live, so it is just a matter of choosing between fiat and btc almost for every little thing. I guess I like spending more fiat

Most common: nearly all my comms bills, from mobile, to temporary servers i need for build/test jobs.

Would like: transportation, hospitality.

How do you usually do it? they take btc?

reply

For mobile and e-sims I use Bitrefill - it works well because they maintain direct interfaces and they accept LN.

For servers there are plenty of companies that accept BTC. They often lack LN support so that can definitely be improved, but i prefer to not have to go through the fiat conversion which is often more expensive end-to-end than the on-chain fee anyway.

I pay for all bills with bitcoin (through Strike) but use bitcoin directly for VPN (Mullvad and Obscura). I also pay for a lunanode vps with bitcoin. Nostr and Stacker.news. Art work and t-shirts from Proof of Ink.

I would love to use it at local grocery store, farmer’s markets, etc.

Barber is interested in it but not willing to commit because of tax issues with his business.

I can only use Lightning with Bitkit when on vpn outside of US. When will that be changing?

How do you pay for bills through strike?

They have Strike Bill Pay now where you get a routing and account number just like a regular checking account. You give this information to the places that bill you, like mortgages, loans, utilities, credit cards, etc, and then as bills come in, the bitcoin that you keep on Strike is sold and dollars are sent to pay the bill.

It is pretty slick and allows me to hold almost no dollars.

Across the year? Definitely conference visits... just absolutely everything by then (food, merch, ubers).

In my regular life/little sleepy village? not much. Some Bitcoiner books and online products basically.
