This is according to Chainanalysis which tends to be full of it, but it's a sad way for bitcoin to "win."

Seems pretty easy to buy Monero on FixedFloat without Binance
Yeah this article seems like BS. Most DNMs ditched BTC for XMR. Lightning might work on DNMs but the amounts can get big. On chain big nono
I used fixed float via trocadero recently...
I mean my 'friend' did this
Dread's reaction to the article:
you can procure monero on Kraken
No mention of lightning, even though that's the best way to preserve privacy in the BTC ecosystem, if done correctly. As far as I know.
big IF imo, next to the sysadmin challenge of having to run an always-online node with enough inbound liquidity for something as essential like receiving payments next to running your DNM.
oh and it's a hot wallet for potentially a lot of funds unless they regularly swap to onchain
Is it not possible to receive lightning payments if your node goes offline? Can it be engineered so that you can?
There's zaplocker today (it locks liquidity on the route so people hate it). We'll eventually see async payments via LSPs but they are still being spec'd out.
Imagine using an LSP as a DNM merchant 😂😂😂
Certainly for senders - especially if you're non-custodial and not dependent on a trampoline, it's excellent. Receiver privacy is improving too with blinded paths.
We need more Bolt 12 integration, plus wrapped invoices.
I would like to see much better Silent Payments support, as far as I know there are only 2 wallets that support it - basically Wasabi and Cake. Wasabi is desktop only... and Cake is multi-coin and so many Bitcoiners don't use it.
We need way, way more education

A few more, maybe, but your point stands. Not enough, even though it's a great approach. The Canadian truckers would likely have benefited from this if it had been around.
I don't know why we don't have full-on, complete embrace of silent payments.
My understanding is that they are a huge improvement on privacy... which we need desperately. Still don't understand why the blocks are mostly empty... if it's a privacy thing then better education and privacy tools might help.
Don't know.
Probably something to ask Ruben Somsen. Silent payments are his brainchild. He's not on SN, but he could maybe join for an ~ama? Not sure the topic would suscite enough interest from Stackers here though.
well of course there is no mention of LN, if you open dread today there's zero discussion about LN on the darknet
What's dread, if i may ask?
Reddit for the Darknet
I see. TIL. Tnx
use fixed float or trocadero swap (with tor)
can you swap back from monero to btc?
you can swap lightning for monero on fixed float or trocadero
Whoever wrote this article is clearly out of the loop in regards to DNMs and Monero
They make all these claims and have nothing to back it. All the major DNMs are still either Monero-only or Bitcoin/Monero with Monero being recommended.
Then they show a timeline of Monero transaction count conveniently starting with the spike that happened when it was being attacked earlier last year and say "daily number of monero transactions has halved from this time last year." lmao. If you zoom out just a bit from their range you can see avg tx count for Monero has been ever so slowly climbing for years.
Kraken has Monero
Also you can swap bitcoin for Monero using Trocadero.app and other swap services
Looks like the delisting of Monero from Binance is pushing darknet markets back to Bitcoin.
Even though Monero was a favorite for privacy, Bitcoin’s liquidity and security are hard to beat. It’ll be interesting to see if this leads to more attention on Bitcoin or if privacy coins try to adapt. Although haven't seen many if any markets switching....yet. Either way, it’s a big shift in the market landscape.
