The other day, I found out that I had to relieve my colleague, for she was on medical leave. She teaches an all-boys teenage class, which is kinda a red flag. I needed to leverage their energy, or else I would lose control of the class.
It was a small class, which enabled me to do this. I prepared some words related to the -less and -free suffixes and then wrote one word on a piece of paper.
I wanted students to think more deeply about some of the words they encounter on a regular basis. How words that take the -less suffix carry a negative connotation, whereas their counterparts that take the -free suffix have a positive connotation.
I gave each boy a piece of paper and sent them off to write their assigned word on the whiteboard.
I then explained the meaning of these words. I hoped these boys learnt something from my lesson!
