Several memories came flooding back... I remember my uncle, who had more money than us, had a computer with Windows 96, and to me, it was the most spectacular thing!
When we would go to his house and he would let me play on it... at night, I didn't want to leave that house!!!

Windows went from 3.11 to 95 and then to 98. I don't think 96 ever existed.
But this does not matter.
However, in this article, the author talk about windows 3.1 when windows was just an application and not an operating system.
Going by memory, Windows 3.1 came out when the operating system was MS-DOS 5 (or maybe it was already MS-DOS 6). These were mono-task operating systems and the processors were a few Mhz (not Ghz) and the memories just a few Mb and not Gb).
