As you may be aware last February 24th, Lifpay suspended their services. They left a message in their website and sent emails to their customers explaining the steps to take to withdraw the sats they had in their wallets as it was no longer available to be sent somewhere else. 

They mentioned in the email that users had 60 days to withdraw the sats, through a process to request the refund. 

Basically, it involved sending an email, including your registered email in Lifpay, your lightning address in Lifpay, your sats balance, a screenshot of latest transactions and the preferred refund method. 

I did it last March 15th and just received it today. 

Thanks to @LifPay for processing it quickly and if you had some funds there, you still have some time to claim them.

### 442 days left to the Opening Match

It's time to summarize the last week all over the world. We already have a bunch of countries that have won their spot in the World Cup. **US, Canada and Mexico** won their ticket as host countries. Then, in this March window, four more teams have earned theirs. Japan, Iran, New Zealand and Argentina have joined the host countries more than one year in advance. Good job. 

Let's look to what has happened elsewhere. 

# Asia

Two of newly qualified national teams came from this area. At this stage, there are three groups of 6 teams. First two teams in each of them qualify to the World Cup. **Japan**  beat 2-0 to Bahrein and qualified in their first match of this window. **Iran** after beating UAE and drawing against Uzbekistan, secured their spot. 

There are 4 more spots to qualify straight to the World Cup and Uzbekistan, South Korea, Jordan and Australia are currently occupying them. Next window, to be held in June will decided the last teams. 

# Africa

None of the teams are qualified yet, as we are half way through the qualifiers. There are nine groups and only the first of each one will go through to the World Cup. Egypt and Morocco are in a confortable position to go through . Tunisia, South Africa, Algeria and Ghana look good too. The other 3 groups are pretty tight and next window will hopefully clarify a bit the situation. 

# North America, Central America and Caribbean

In this area there are already 3 nations, as hosting countries, in the World Cup: US, Canada and Mexico. Other 30 nations are already participating through a group stage that will led the best 12 to a third round, where they finally fight for 3 spots at the World Cup . So, it's very early to see a clear favorite. There has not been matches in this window. 

# South America

10 national teams fighting for 6 spots to qualify straight to the World Cup. One of them, it has been already taken by **Argentina**, following two important wins against Uruguay (away) and Brazil (at home). This one has been a great one, as they have beaten Brazil 4-1. Last time they received 4  or more goals was in 2014. Despite of the loss, Brazil is 6 points clear from 7th place and it looks confortable. 

Ecuador is second in the table, followed by Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil two points behind. There will be 4 more weeks to decide the qualified teams. Next window in June. 

#  Oceania

For the first time, this area has been awarded with one straight spot to the World Cup. Previously , the winner of this area always had to play against a team from another area, such as South America, making difficult to qualify. 

So, during this window, a final four system has been played between New Caledonia, Fiji, Tahiti and New Zealand. The final matchup between New Caledonia and **New Zealand** ended up with the Kiwis qualifying to the World Cup (3-0 full time result)

# Europe

The qualifiers have just commenced in this window, and some of the stronger nations are still not involved as they were participating in the UEFA Nations League QF. 

Some nations, such as England, Poland, Norway, Bosnia, Czechia and Montenegro have won their 2 initial matches and have taken the lead in their group. However, we are at a very early stage and plenty of action is still ahead.  

The next window of qualifiers will be played in June. I will keep you posted.

UEFA Nations League: Second leg of Quarter-finals

Honestly, Spain. My only concern is that we haven't got a proper striker. We will see if Yamine, Nico Williams et al are enough to win it. 

And still missing in your list UEFA Conference League and FIFA World Club Cup (this June). 

They are just making money and the main problem that I see there is injured players. However, players want to be paid high salaries and this money needs to come from TV, rights, .... which means more matches. Difficult decision there.. 

As I mentioned in  [my previous post](https://stacker.news/items/920387), over the weekend 8 national teems sought their spot in the Final Four, which will be held in June, finally in Germany. 

They were very entertaining match-ups. To begin with, only one of the ties was decided at the end of the 90 minutes. **Germany** made the Final Four after drawing 3-3 against Italy and considering their win at the first leg (1-2 in Italy). They were winning clearly at halftime with a 3-0 lead. However, the Italians almost complete a full comeback at the end of the match. They just needed another goal to go to the extra time but there was no time left after the equalizer at 95 minutes. 

Then, **Portugal** won the match 3-2 at 90 minutes, after Trincao scored a late goal at 85 minutes. This result, aggregated to the 1-0 Danish win in the first leg, took the match to the extra time. Trincao and Ramos scored for Portugal and they are through to the Final Four. Cristiano Ronaldo, aged 40, scored again to help his team for the chance to win another title. 

**France** had to score twice in the Stade de France to take the match against Croatia to the extra time. Finally, it ended up in a draw and winning the penalty shootout gave them the ticket to Germany. 

And finally **Spain**. It's a joy to watch this young squad with Yamine and Williams in the wings. Either Dani Olmo or Pedri assisting them. Fabian helping Zubimendi (still missing injured Rodri) to hold the team. The goalkeeper, Unai Simon, saving some shots and decisive penalty. The match was intense, the Netherlands never gave up and they manage to equalize the match in three occasions. At the end, it was decided in the penalty shootout, where Unai Simon saved the last penalty and Pedri scored to join the Spanish national team to the other three in Germany. 

Portugal (2019), France (2021) and Spain (2023) are the only winners of this recently created UEFA contest. Germany will play it as a host. Will this be enough for them to clinch the title? 

But for now, the National teams take a rest until the beginning of June and the national leagues and European contests takes the spotlight for the next 2 months.

Yes. It’s correct. The biggest ever event in football (or soccer as you may call it) is heading towards the US, Canada and Mexico. 

FIFA is clearly pointing out the US as a market to grow. In less than 3 months, US will be hosting the very first FIFA World Club Cup and, the following year, the 26th edition of the FIFA World Cup. 

For the first time ever, three countries will be hosting the final phase of a World Cup. In this case, 48 national teams will be fighting to be crowned the reigning world champion for the next 4 years. This is the highest amount of teams taking part in a World Cup ever. 

The **tournament will run from June 11th to July 19th, 2026**. The opening match will be played at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico and the Final will be held at the MetLife Stadium in New York. 

I am aware that the soccer schedule is a jigsaw for most of you, especially for stackers in the US who have other sports contests such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. However, the World Cup is the most important event for football fans and it’s played every four years. The teams face a long road prior to the final stages of the contest. National leagues pause their schedule through the year to allow the national teams to play the qualifiers towards the World Cup. 

My aim with this serie is to give you enough insight to this event, so that we can enjoy it together and end it up with a **World Cup Survivor Pool in June-July 2026.** 

For the next 15 months, I will be posting information covering the tournament, qualifiers and different nations already qualified for the event. I hope you enjoy it.
