Hello! I'm confused as to why this guide defaults to interacting with bitcoin core through a VPS. Why not just install bitcoin core on my linux machine and learn the bitcoin-cli locally? Is there something in the Bitcoin Standup Project that makes this guide easier? I can install bitcoin and tor via the command line. I just don't understand why I would pay for a server and have to rely on external infrastructure when I could install bitcoin core locally.
Graphene OS with some apps from fdroid/aurora store/apk. Sandboxed google play running. Try to keep non open source apps to a minimum. It's all about picking your tradeoffs
I've thought about this before. Since I view Bitcoin as a more fair currency than fiat, the issue of wealth concentration bugged me. I found this article insightful.
vs fiat wealth concentration
Bitcoins distribution isn't equal, but it is fair. If it's distribution was equal, it would not be fair. I believe bitcoins fair rules will lead to a more fair distribution over time compared to fiat.
SMS is transmitted plain text, can be snooped on by hackers, saved by the telecom companies or intercepted and saved by governments. Although I think sometimes they just collect metadata, not the texts themselves, but I don't know. Same goes with voice calls. Signal is E2E encrypted, so all those worries are negated as long as the encryption isn't back doored. So id prefer to use signal. I'm not aiming for complete anonymity, just peace of mind that I can reasonably assume my digital communications with family and friends are with just them. And no digital record of those communications will be saved on someone's servers for eternity.
Well from my homework so far I've come to the conclusion that signal is more secure and private than sms/standard voice calls. That's why I'd prefer to use signal. Please let me know if there's any errors in my analysis.

It's disheartening really, I've known these people for over a decade and they can't respect me enough to download an app. They don't understand how much we're being surveilled. And they're still in the nomie mind virus of nihlism and "I have nothing to hide"
I saw a tweet once that said even if Bitcoin went away tomorrow it would still have had a net positive impact on my life. I find that true.
Bitcoin sparked my curiosity in many different subjects I previously was ignorant on. Economics, energy, monetary history, political science and different forms of governance, libertarianism, central banking, privacy, human rights, etc. Most of all I think it has inspired me to believe I have an impact on the future, and while normies around me are absorbed by politics and nihilism, I'm optimistic for the future.
