I also learned today that the effective firing range of an AR-15 is 600 yards, so 24x higher than what we were shooting at. I'm not sure I would even be able to see the target at that range. But I guess effective means suppression is enough?
To shoot at those distances, you use different sights and generally you have a spotter by your side who helps you manage the wind and any external elements. To be honest, 600 yards seems like a lot for an AR-15, but I've never had the chance to test it, so I'll defer to the technical data.
