are you sure there are many people using Gear Lever and whatnot? I had never heard about these things, they don't show up easily on google and have very few stars on github
I had a plan involving opentimestamping identities and requiring them to be old, but it is broken because one could timestamp thousands at once, so I wanted them to be timestamped in relation with others, but that just does the reputation game again, so I'm not sure it makes sense.
the other idea is to do fidelity bonds and their variations, like joinmarket used to.
but honestly I think the paid nostr.wine relay is pretty good, I'm just sad that I couldn't find any other relays that operate in a similar vein (single steep upfront fee)
also we shouldn't omit the fact that bitcoin-smol encourages small amounts, which to me are a solution for reputation bootstrap.
if you have a criticism against barriers to entry and lack of liquidity because reputation is hard, that is the same criticism I have against vexl
and I'm trying to fix it by telling people that it is ok to trust strangers if identity is costly and starting small is ok

what stops someone who feels frustrated with another person on bitcoin-smol trying to nuke their reputation?
how would you proceed to nuke someone's reputation? reputation is local, your nuking would only ever be seen by people who had transacted with you (or indirectly, according to a new feature still being worked on)
still, if you have garnered good reputation from lots of people a single person misreporting you should have little effect
what I hear from people is that they often end up trading with the same people multiple times on bisq and robosats, and when it's someone new showing up that is bad as that person might try to do something weird, but you can't prevent it because these apps make it impossible to rely on reputation whatsoever, so I built the opposite
I don't think it's a question of including more people, as I imagine there are very few liquidity providers in these platforms anyway, but I can't be sure of course
just found this, but I'm not sure whta to think of it:https://github.com/Letdown2491/orchard
I'm literally struggling against this right now for my apps https://github.com/andunieee/flipflop, https://github.com/andunieee/twain, https://github.com/andunieee/cathode
I looked into publishing to flathub, but it's so cumbersome and annoying, and I'm not sure people browse that normally, it's so full of useless apps anyway, and it doesn't have many of the great ones
and I have no idea of how to get my apps into the normal package managers, if that is even possible
I like the --install-desktop-entry flag, is that a common pattern?
What do you think about the curl | sh pattern?
do you recommend it for a cold storage setup?
just one feedback:
it feels too big, full of features and nostr-specific functionality
I'm not sure where I would start using it
where can we read more about this?
perhaps if more people heard about it they will be more inspired to try something similar in their areas
unfortunately I'm too much of a nerd to start such a movement myself
that's pretty good news
in that case we need to see more organizations like bitcoin jungle doing this, is this a for-profit company that runs the wallet infrastructure and also integration with the local banking system?
it's like a miracle that it even exists, and it didn't seem to have any KYC at all, simple setup, I wonder if this type of stuff has been tried elsewhere, and how can we get more people to go do this type of legwork for bitcoin jungle
thats what I thought too, team A's merchants seem to be more interested, team B only has the numbers
but having the numbers is also important, as one merchant seeing that others also accept is more likely to keep accepting
this is only the first step before he comes back with Nedo, a new JavaScript runtime in Zig that fixes everything, which will try to do whatever for some years until he ragequits
10 years later he will make his final JavaScript runtime, this time using a new programming language that isn't year released. it will be called done
Lichen is a great idea. has there been any interest from L2 implementors, like the Arkade people?
