back in July i started a weekly writing contest (https://stacker.news/items/1040070/r/billytheked) in ~the_stacker_muse  --the project was to test and see how enthusiastic stackers are about the literary arts

another contest (https://stacker.news/items/1043076/r/billytheked) was launched in ~BooksAndArticles shortly thereafter 

~Memes too has a weekly meming competition 

i have participated in all of the above --and even as i have been the host of such competitions ---there is a part of zapranking-based judging that rubs me the wrong way 

especially for a contest of the literary arts

zaprank is pretty cool i admit --but it *is* [algorithmic](https://stacker.news/items/916035/r/billytheked) and ---i think -- results in what has been rather aptly described as a [keynsian beauty contest](https://stacker.news/items/473181/r/Undisciplined)

that is, zap behavior is tangled up with the rewards -- which

and then there is trust --which influences rankings also

OK--so i am no mathematician --and also there are a few concepts --trust --zaprank -- rewards -- here that are all somewhat ungracefully tangled together --but the fact remains that all zaps are not quite equal as they pertain to such contests

--e.g. [comment](https://stacker.news/items/1052867/r/billytheked?commentId=1052894) i read recently led me to believe that 10 sats from a perfectly trusted user[^1] is similar to a 10k sat boost

so -- bearing that all in mind -- how in your opinion should these contests be judged going forward

Starting tomorrow, Stacker News is running a new rewards experiment called Million Sat Madness.

### How Million Sat Madness Works

Stacker News is giving away millions of sats to the top 64 SN contributors in March. One stacker is guaranteed a grand prize of 1 million sats + bonuses, and the rest of the top 64 are guaranteed a percentage share of another 2 million sats + bonuses.

The bonuses are funds that would otherwise be sent to the daily rewards pool. Instead of being paid each day, they will be added to the Million Sat Madness bonus pool and be paid at the end of March on top of the 3 million guaranteed sats. 

To be clear, Million Sat Madness is a replacement (not a complement) to daily rewards this month.

The bonus pool is paid proportionally to your guaranteed sats, so the more you earn from guaranteed sats, the more you’ll earn from the bonus pool.

### How To Participate in Million Sat Madness

Everyone on SN can participate simply by creating and zapping great content. Tomorrow morning, the [rewards page](https://stacker.news/rewards) will display a leaderboard (updated hourly) of stackers in position to earn rewards as part of Million Sat Madness. 

An "estimated rewards" number will also be added to the leaderboard to give stackers a better idea of the rewards for each one of the top 64 positions.

Just like with all our past rewards experiments, Million Sat Madness rewards people who bring value to Stacker News. That means:
- creating great posts and comments
- zapping great posts and comments

The rewards algorithm Stacker News uses is still the same, the only difference is that your score accumulates over the entire month of March instead of resetting each day.

This also means you don’t have to be active every single day to earn rewards, however your score is cumulative so frequent participation on Stacker News is a better strategy.

This video seems to explain very well how I feel about desktops vs laptops.

I don't need a powerful portable machine if I can't really make use of the portability. I don't like working with a small keyboard and small screen. So in any case, I always plugged my laptop into the outlet, connected external keyboard and mouse and screen. So for the money that I would pay for a powerful laptop, I could get a nice wireless keyboard + mouse, a good screen and still buy a more powerful machine which only lacks in portability. As long as the mainboard is not too old, this machine will also be easily upgradable in the future.

What is your view on this?

Do you use a laptop or a desktop machine as your daily driver? Why?

If you have a website example.com you can self verify your own NIP-05 yourname@example.com by hosting a simple nostr.json file in the .well-known folder of your website. This is usually found in the public_html folder in your cpanel file manager or any other FTP client you use. You should also make sure you enable CORS or it is quite likely the verification would fail.
