I posted this yesterday on Nostr. I think it fits as a reply here.
I see many notes worrying that Nostr isn't growing fast enough. I'm not worried though. I don't think the growth will be linear.
All it will take is ONE application to go viral. The day that happens the whole thing will explode. That's the protocols magic. Once people get sucked in, they can already "log in" to every other thing made on Nostr. That's the day every Nostr apps user count goes to the moon.
Both of these sound like perfect ways to kill Nostr.
I think it is important to remember Nostr is a in development beta test of a new, free, uncensorable, decentralized social media protocol. It is created and maintained by a loose, growing coalition of devs, volunteers & friends.
It might be wise to maintain some perspective when comparing Nostr to centralized & controlled, decade old social media platforms ran by some of the world's largest corporations.
MP3. I had Winamp running in early 1999, blew people's minds. Had a 2nd Gen iPod too, I remember being told how dumb I was for spending that much on a music player.
Avoiding seed oils and sugar is another. I made the switch 10 years ago. I have maintained a weight loss of 40% over that timeframe, so I think it works.
And now bitcoin! I get a lot of the same feeling from bitcoin & Nostr. It's why I'm so bullish.
Yes! Having everything on my phone available on my computer is a must have. Photos being instantly available saves so much time. Add a general sync folder and it is perfect.
Syncthing, it lets you sync any folder between various other hosts. The setup is a bit of work, but has been running great for months now. Highly recommended!
Just want to say Hello. Discovered the site through Nostr. I'm fully on my way down the Bitcoin rabbit hole. I can't wait to sleep again.
Debian. Things are a bit old, but generally "just work". I use it mostly due to familiarity, I started using Linux with Ubuntu at version 5.10. Switched to Debian after working at an tiny wireless ISP that used Debian everywhere. After that no going back, I'd learned too much.
