Great topic!
I think the modern western work-life balance is deeply inhuman. We spend enormous amounts of time away from home, often outside our community, in hyper novel environments where we're subjected to highly arbitrary rules.
Our average day bears almost no resemblance to anything we're adapted to.
the modern western work-life balance
Is it a tradition? Is it something that's descended upon you from your forefathers?
I'm not saying I don't agree. This can be inhuman but it does not bring out any pity for the victims. Those who adopt this as tradition do it so willingly, not being forced. And tbh, that's what the men of all eras and mostly those from the western have been doing forever in search of wealth or maybe something else. The satisfaction is missing and the longing for riches is enormous. That's not the fault of anyone else than the person who chose to lead a life away from his family. So, how is it a tradition, a most inhumane tradition?

Is it a tradition?
Sort of. we are about five or six generations into this.

Ok. But it's not circumstance al, it's rather self created.
