Honestly not to much shocks me when it comes to politics right now because you can see a ton of what is going on or coming from a mile away in Washington, DC. However, when David Hogg was given or should I say "voted" into a Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair seat. Hogg rose to promise in 2018 as student survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and helping lead several high-profile protests, marches, and boycotts. However, he does not really have any sort of actual political experience and even when it comes to his organizational capabilities he relies on the youth who do not exactly have money to help with fundraising.
What has been a possible death blow though was when he came out, not long after winning his Vice Chair position, and said he wanted to launch primaries against certain incumbents that he did not like. I have forgotten who exactly these people were as there was really a list of them but not only did it target Democratic Leadership but also vulnerable purple seat Democrats and some of the parties biggest fundraisers. Naturally this announcement split the hell out of the Democratic Party because well he was calling for peoples jobs immediately as a kid who was brand new.
Now we have the leaked audio from the brand new DNC Chair Ken Martin who lit into Hogg.
"“I’m just quite frustrated to be in this position, because what you’ve done, whether you like it or not or know it or not, David, is I’m trying to — no one knows who the hell I am, right?” “I’m trying to get my sea legs underneath me and actually develop any amount of credibility so I can go out there and raise the money and do the job I need to, to put ourselves in a position to win,” he continued. “And again, I don’t think you intended this, but you essentially destroyed any chance I have to show the leadership that I need to, so it’s really frustrating.”
Chair Martin even hinted at stepping down just month into his tenure and while he has walked it back that would be a huge PR blow and show the public how the Democratic Party cannot get it together. This is not just something though that the DNC Chair is expressing as many in DC even the youth that he is supposed to court back to the Democratic Party are turned off by him. His idea of honest to god burning $20 million in primaries for safe Democratic seats to replace those he has deemed "ineffective" is not only another example of a waste of money but also creates the possibility of the party having to spend more as a well funded Republican could really shake up a race that has caused a party to split.
It should come as no surprise to anyone then that the DNC panel last month voted to "redo two vice chair elections on procedural grounds" in other words they are going to replace these people. Given the current news cycle and the unrest Democrats honestly have an opening to strike the Republican Party and make them hurt but because of their own internal issues they cannot get out a message that does just that.
