I was at a high school graduation event recently, and they still had signs up for the recent Teacher Appreciation Day. On this day, all kinds of teacher-focused events happen - things like a fresh baked bagel breakfast for the teachers, kids are supposed to do things like write the teachers cards, etc.
It stuck in my head. I didn't feel happy about it because I don't like public education. But I didn't think to post about it.
Until just a few days latter, when I saw another sign at a nearby fitness gym. And guess what...at the gym, it was Member Appreciation Day.
That epitomizes, to me, the difference between government supported (mandated) education, and business that are oriented towards benefiting their customers.
The gym appreciates their members (i.e. CUSTOMERS). But at the school (government controlled), the TEACHERS are appreciated. The school is supposed to be for the students, but who gets the "appreciation day"? The TEACHERS.
Thoughts?
