Here's a no-brainer the logic of which everyone should be able to see.
so long as government remains such a powerful and destructive force, political tensions will rise over how that power should be used—and against whom. With government large, growing, and reaching into every nook and cranny of our lives, Americans perceive politics as too much of a high-stakes game to lose. And so, they have divided into hostile camps to make sure their side comes out on top—and some turn ideological conflict into literal war.
Way back after Trump election 2.0 (or 3.0, if you're into that...), I was certain Democrats and left-wingers would see what I find to be the most obvious truth of contemporary politics: When gov is too large, who rules it becomes a matter of life and death. When gov is large, it really matters who sits on the throne, so you invest heavily (ideologically and in lobbying/sponsorship) to convince everyone that your dude gotta be running the show. #764497
It's despicable. And the only solution to social harmony is to lower the goddamn stakes. The only way to win is to not play.
JD's story today in Reason is all-too-common and all-too-depressing
"It's alarming, but not surprising, that Americans are living in a world of self-reinforcing justifications for engaging in violence to achieve some sort of gain—especially for political and ideological goals."
Silly question, but have y'alls tried IGNORING politics for a while...?
Pretty pathetic.
