There's this thing we do with each new technology, where we kind of get dragged into it complaining until it changes us so much that it becomes part of the new normal and what it means to be human. Why do we seem think screens are different?

Computers are cool.

Because they’ve captured us in a way never seen before. They’re attention traps that update every second to keep us hooked.
In that case, what if the solution isn’t to regulate smartphone use? What if we gave up on our devices and broke the devil’s bargain?
As you can tell from his account, this technology—unlike others—regulates nearly every action in our daily lives. With AI, this will only get worse, since just a few years ago people already trusted the top search results on Google, and now a simple AI answer is enough, no matter how wrong or imprecise it might be.

Yeah, I’ve thought about this too. Every time something new comes along, people panic like it’s the end of “real life.” But then we adapt, and eventually it just becomes part of how we live and connect. Screens aren’t the enemy it’s more about how we use them. I mean, books were once considered dangerous distractions too. Now they’re seen as sacred. Feels like screens are just the current version of that same pattern. Maybe the real question isn’t why we use these things so much, but what we’re using them for.
