People talk about llms "trying" to do this or "intending" that, but isn't it kind of like calling evolution "natural selection"? There never was any intention in the selection, no choice being made. Rather, just the outcome as a result of that particular mix of circumstances. Survival of the fittest: we get the responses that match the circumstances.
That seems right, but to stick with your analogy, talking about genes "trying" to do things is immensely easier than making the corresponding precise statements.
