In actuality, almost no power was saved by the switch.
People already bought those GPUs. They aren't just gonna throw them out. GPUs can easily switch to any hashing algo (and they do all the time). They are now mining some other coin. I bet all other GPU minable (non-ASIC) POW coins prob got a bump in hashpower recently.
