Hello everyone!
It has been a while since I have posted. My mental health has not been the greatest. It appears I might have either ADHD or Bipolar or perhaps both.
However I am getting lots of help and support and I have started journaling and this appears to be a very helpful activity. I’m also working on a novel detailing my bizarre life.
I would like to expand or improve my writing and I was curious if anyone has any recommendations on doing this?

read so much. read what you like. entertain yourself on a blank page for as long as you can. if you can't, stop. it helps do it in silence. it helps to speak out loud to yourself. (I actually don't know about that, but it could be true for you, who knows?) ask for feedback whenever, and this is a great place to do it.
a couple years ago, I was asking stackers similar questions, and they had a lot of cool things to say #301588 it was like a highlight of my life, so could be worth looking at again

ps thank you @elvismercury for #302179. I haven't said so before, maybe once on stacker news live. What you wrote there shook the ground for me a little bit.

This comes as a very welcome message to me right now for reasons you will never know. (Ha, so meta!)
Thanks for taking the time.

I have issues {x, y, z} and they manifest in {a, b, c}. Quitting […] would have been a short-term fix that solved nothing at all. Then {x, y, z} would simply have manifested in {p, q, r}. {x, y, z} is what needs to be dealt with.
Also thanks from me now for this. This is quite literally what I’ve been thinking about for the last six months, but phrased much better. Now I’ll never forget it!
you’re changing lives with your arrangements of words

Reading my response to you hits differently, now that I know you a bit better. Cool that we have built a friendship through time even though we interact with each other only occasionally!

I so felt the same way. it's cool to look back just a couple years to reflect, and it confirms that something real is happening here

Write every day. Read what you write. Don't get discouraged.

If anything, those labels will indicate your talent. That's where culture has a problem with you.

theres probably many ways one can improve their writing, but id say one of the best and most rewarding would be to find someone you trust and see if they'll give you honest feedback. See if they can tell you:
  • how what you wrote made you feel
  • whether they think they 'got' what it is you were trying to say
  • what they liked/disliked
Then compare what they tell you with what your expectation was. Rinse and repeat.

That actually really good advice. Thank-you very much.

Haha first lesson. Proofread before hitting reply.

I think there is no need to think less of yourself because of your condition. Neurodivergent people contribute to the world through their creativity and quirky ways. I often bring up the example of Dav Pilkey. His misspellings and random capitalisation haven’t deterred from casting his light on the world.
I think that in an age where AI slop turns people off, our writing, flawed as it may be, may ironically gain greater value because we unreservedly share ourselves on the page, warts and all. Don’t censor yourself too much. Just write away and post

Thank-you for the kind words. I don’t think less of myself I’m just trying to understand myself better I will write more about this as it develops.
I haven’t been diagnosed yet with anything but something is definitely going on but like you said I shall just write away and post.

Hey just realized I knew you from your earlier posts #765703, welcome back! sorry to hear you've been going through things. Journaling and writing is definitely something I do to feel like a real person and stuff. I hope your expression in writing will bring peace to you. Will be here, looking out for anything you share!

To say the truth, most writers tend to use AI services to organize their work however you need to add your personal touch to the writing not just copy and paste like a robot.

Does that improve your craft or is that a form of cheating yourself?
reply
There is a big difference between this and that. Request 1: Expand to 3 titled paragraphs: This is a form of cheating yourself Request 2: Correct grammatic and mispell errors in this paragraph (you write your craft) In form 1: You are cheating yourself. In form 2: It helps to have a paragraph grammar mistake free and without mispell errors or sentences that aren't understandable. Hope this is clear

I am not very instructed in the subject, but I think that something that could be useful apart from the activities you already mentioned. It would be a newspaper (about your day to day) I was recent

Wow, in my family, my nephew has ADHD and receives therapy. Apparently, I suffer from it too. I also love literature, reading, and writing. Don't give up, just get inspired and write. You'll see that everything flows.
