I've been absent from SN in the past year or so (because life), just skimming through some discussions here and there so I didn't pay attention to some major changes that happened in this period.
Can some one give me (or point me to) a TLDR about Cowboy Credits? What are they for? Why would I buy more?
Basically just a workaround for U.S. money transmission laws.

Stacker News never takes custody of stackers' money to send it to someone else.
Not exactly true, I’ve got sats in my SN wallet and I can send ’em to others no problem.

That’s our money not your money, legally, until you transfer it out.

I’m no lawyer, but this might be one of those depends how you see it’ things. So legally, what’s my deal here, since I can send it to someone else?

Why would I buy more?
You don't buy them as sats. If you are new to SN you just buy them to post. SN is a "pay to post" game. As any other game "pay to play". CCs are in-game credits to do whatever you want with them but useless outside the game.
If you came here with "I will post to earn sats" in your mind... you are wrong.
