I bought a secondhand $50 computer a while back. Flashed Ubuntu and it works great for testing things that I don't want to do on my main computer.
ive also flashed ubuntu on old computers. i found it amazing how much the machines' performance improved when not running all the bloat that comes with windows.
i learned a lot using Linux also. fantastic experience overall!
