So, I was asked by a few people who are casually curious about Bitcoin, and I thought of conducting a (paid) Bitcoin session, face to face. I should be honest that it is not entirely out of the goodness of my heart.
Assuming it is mostly adult to middle age crowd who are proficient in using their smart-phones, this is the agenda I have in mind, for an about three hour session.
- What is money?
- What makes your money not yours when you need it? (Examples of state censorship, capital control, frozen bank accounts)
- Overdependence of trust on a centralised system
- What is Bitcoin
- How does it encourage self-sovereignty?
- Is it only for tech nerds, cyberpunks and hackers?
- How does Bitcoin eliminate counter-party risk?
- Why are businesses rushing towards it?
- Getting started with Bitcoin
- What is on-chain?
- Set up an on-chain wallet on their phone
- What is lightning?
- Set up lightning on their phone
- Re-emphasise the role of trust and points of failure to make sure they don't lose their funds
- Introduction to advanced topics (cold wallet, fedimint etc. just mentioning the name pointing to some references, to show the possibilities are endless)
- Distribution of 10,000 Sats to everyone (from my wallet) to show how a transfer works, and also to get them off the ground, from zero to non-zero
I am trying to create a balance between why (so that they understand the value of Bitcoin, and do not panic sale or think it is a scam during a bear market) and how (practical enough, so that they can use Bitcoin).
So, what do you stackers think? Do you think it is something useful? I am also thinking to charge them about ~USD 100 (with the obvious option to pay in Sats, but why would anyone attend the session if they could do that)? Is it too high or too low?
Being honest, I did not pay a penny to anyone for my lessons, I learnt from reading books, watching YouTube videos and even writing some codes. But still I think there are people who may use a helping hand, and hence the idea.
