Stopped by Guitar Center today just to mess around for a bit and ended up having a pretty sweet time. Got my hands on a Gibson SG 1961 reissue and a genuine '61 ES-335 (selling for $10k) - both sounded beautiful. Plugged into a Twin Reverb and was just noodling with some clean tones. Had it pretty dialed in I would say. As you can guess, I'm a Gibson guy.
A few people around the store actually came up to compliment the tone or just gave a shout from across the room - “great tone,” “keep it going” - which was cool to hear.
Most people there were absolutely blasting their amps. I swear, I'm always the only one playing clean and playing tastefully. Everyone else is going full volume punishment mode. Whats funny is it's usually those that come up and complement me, which they did today.
Midway through, I hear someone call out, “Is that Colin?” - turned out it was my old friend Tank. We used to play together in his band, Ivadell. Then he tells me someone else I might know works there too. Turns out it’s my friend Panda from Florida, who I haven’t seen in ages. He used to play in Basebourne, another killer band.
I wasn’t expecting anything today - just wanted to play - and ended up reuniting with old friends, jamming on some dream guitars, and making some sweet sounds. Wholesome day.
