others have said it, to "kill your darlings," which is also similar to sunk cost bias in business. i believe it applies much more generally, as well.
how hard is this for you? have you trained yourself to be a cold, hard killer?

It's a daily battle. At least for me, the writing process always involves a struggle to kill off all the words I want to be there, but shouldn't.

i agree, but ultimately i believe self-editing makes me a better person, a process that is never finished until i am, I guess
